Reactive power control

Thesis cover Destano del Puerto Flores
Cover of the thesis written by Destano del Puerto Flores. The doctoral thesis defence took place on 5 December 2011.

Description

Reactive power of electrical systems is important to consider, since it may result in unwanted by-products and losses. However, up to now, the solutions in order to reduce the negative aspects of relative power are taken care of in an ad hoc fashion. The purpose of this research is to develop structural methods to deal with reactive power incorporated in a nonlinear control framework that relies heavily on the physics. Therefore, passivity-based control and the cyclo-dissipativity property are being used as cornerstone in this research. A laboratory experimental is part of the research.
