Adaptations in response to the Corona crisis
Updated 24 July 2020
Naturally, the Faculty of Philosophy follows the central University policy decisions. They are updated on www.rug.nl/corona daily, and twice a day if necessary.
If you are planning to come to Groningen to start one of our degree programmes in 2020-2021, please scroll down on the mentioned page until the Information per target group heading, then click on Prospective students to find any consequences that may apply to you.
Faculty specific adaptations
The Introduction 2020-2021 is addressed to all first year's Philosophy students - this programme is only offered in Dutch, so the information is not relevant to international students.
Bachelors-before-masters-rule cancelled
You can already start your Philosophy master's programme if you have obtained all ECTS of your Bachelor's or have a deficit of a maximum of 15 ECTS. This means that the 'bachelors-before-masters-rule (the so-called 'Harde Knip') may be cancelled by the programme's admission board. Although the 15 ECTS can be part of writing the thesis, we strongly advise to finish your thesis before starting your master's.
If you think you are eligible, please contact the study advisor. The programme's admissions board will decide.
Deadlines
Deadlines for our two selective master's programmes Philosophy, Politics and Economics and the Research Master's in Philosophy have been extended to 1 June for EU applicants.
Language test (in application procedures for master's programmes, and for our international bachelor's programme)
- The online TOEFL as well as the online LCET are accepted for the September 2020 intake. Required level: C1.
- The Admissions Board may grant an exemption of the language test on the basis of a sufficient score on the online LCET to students who need a visa.
