Collective health insurance

University of Groningen has entered into a collective insurance agreement with Menzis. The Menzis collective insurance offers a competitive basic insurance package at a reduced price, as well as supplementary coverage packages at a premium. The cost of the basic package is approximately €100 per month per person. Children up to 18 years old can be added to their parents’ insurance for free.

Child benefit

Parents living or working in the Netherlands with children under 18 are entitled to child benefit ('kinderbijslag'), a quarterly contribution to the cost of raising children. The amount depends on age, special needs etc. but is not income-related.

Childcare allowance

Parents working (or studying) in the Netherlands are entitled to childcare allowance ('kinderopvangtoeslag') for children under 12. This is a contribution to the cost of childcare, whether for a childcare centre, afterschool care or a private childminder ('gastouder'). The allowance can reduce childcare costs up to a maximum of 90 percent, depending on income and number of children. Indication of costs € 7,00 per hour, before tax.
