Nienke Bastiaans appointed as Managing Director of the Faculty of Economics and Business

The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) is pleased to announce that Nienke Bastiaans has been appointed as its Managing Director. Bastiaans will replace John de Groot as of January 1 2026.

Nienke Bastiaans is currently the Managing Director of the University of Groningen’s Faculty of Spatial Sciences and was Managing Director of the Faculty of Religion, Culture and Society before that. Bastiaans has also previously worked at FEB in various roles. In recent years, she has been the driving force behind the UG’s ‘Back in Balance’ austerity program. Bastiaans is excited to return back to FEB in this new role. “I feel honoured about going back to FEB. I am really looking forward to cooperating with the Faculty Board and with other colleagues in this great Faculty.”

Bastiaans will replace John de Groot, who was FEB’s Managing Director since 2014 and will retire at the end of 2025.

FEB’s Dean Peter Verhoef is pleased to welcome Bastiaans to the Faculty Board and thanks De Groot for his dedication to the faculty over the past eleven years. “I am pleased that we have found an experienced Managing Director within the UG, that already knows FEB very well given her prior roles at FEB. We look forward to working together in the Faculty Board of FEB.”
