The Faculty of Economics and Business is pleased to announce that as from 1 September 2022, professor Ulrike Schultze has been appointed as Professor of Business Information Systems. The chair will be situated within the department of Innovation Management and Strategy (IM&S) and the research program on Innovation & Organization.

Ulrike Schultze is currently full professor in Information Technology and Operations Management at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, where she started out as an assistant professor in 1997 and became research professor in 2013. During this time, she was also affiliated with universities in Sweden as a visiting professor and a visiting fellow.

Digitalization research

Schultze’s research explores the complex relationship between digitalization and work practices. In particular, she seeks to understand what the material conditions associated with information technology produce, especially with respect to organizational and societal change. While Schultze has studied the work practice implications of knowledge management systems and of Internet-based self-service technology in the past, her more recent research explores digital platforms, including the sharing economy and blockchain technology. Her studies on social media, which includes empirical work on social movements, focus on personal identity in particular.

Strengthening research & education

As Professor in Business Information Systems, Schultze will take a leading role in strengthening the research of the Innovation & Organization Research Program. The focus of the research will be on how information systems contribute to strategies, innovation, and transformation of modern organizations. As professor, Schultze will also supervise PhD’s on topics related to information systems in modern organizations. Furthermore, she will provide education and be involved in further developing the bachelor and (research) master programs in Business Administration.
