Nazim Hussain and colleagues win European Academy of Management Best Paper Award
Nazim Hussain and co-authors have won the Best Paper Award in the Corporate Governance track at the annual conference of the European Academy of Management (EURAM) held in June in Zurich. Their paper on ‘Gender diversity in the boardroom and corporate social responsibility decoupling’ was found to be the best by EURAM’s Strategic Interest Group (SIG) in Corporate Governance.
Nazim Hussain, an assistant professor at FEB’s department of Accounting, co-authored the paper with Ammar Ali Gull (ESSCA-School of Management, France), Sana Akbar Khan (Lyon Catholic University, France), Muhammad Nadeem (University of Otago School of Business, New Zealand), and Alaa Mansour Zalata (University of Southampton, United Kingdom). The researchers investigated the relationship between board gender diversity (BGD) and corporate social responsibility (CSR) decoupling using Agency Theory and Critical Mass Theory. Nazim and colleagues note that BGD is negatively associated with CSR decoupling - a practice that has severe socio-economic consequences for firms.
The paper was valued by EURAM’s Strategic Interest Group (SIG) in Corporate Governance for its’ important theoretical and policy implications for the field of corporate governance and CSR. EURAM aims at advancing the academic discipline of management in Europe and provides its members with opportunities to enrich debates over a variety of research management themes and traditions. The research themes cover broad and transversal management disciplines for which EURAM members have shown a keen interest over the years.
