The theme of the second edition of EQuni Summer School in Faro is become an agent of change for equity and inclusion in European universities. During the 5 days of the summerschool, you will have ample opportunities to work in a multidisciplinary and international group, with fun and enriching activities. We developed a board game that makes you use your emotional intelligence while playing. You are offered training and workshops around themes as Emotional Intelligence, discrimination in academia, communication and cultural awareness. Trainers from the University of Algarve (Portugal), Lodz University of Technology (Poland) and University of Groningen facilitate you in these seminars.

The final programme will be published here soon!

This course is designed for students, faculty members, researchers, scholarship holders, teaching and non-teaching staff. When registering, you sign up for a programme of your choice. Outside the trainings there will be opportunities to exchange views and make contacts.

It is expected that the participants have a sufficient command of the English language to actively participate in the discussions and to present their own work in English.

Course schedule

The following trainings are offered:

  • Self-awareness and bias recognition

  • Empathy and perspective taking

  • Inclusive communication strategies

  • Structural and cultural integration

  • Neurodiverse education

*In the project, a board game has been developed that makes it possible to discuss discrimination with each other.

A mobile application is also being developed, for which we want to ask summer school participants to act as test players.

The final programme will be published on this website in June/July.

Learning outcomes

After participating in the summer school, you…

  • have honed your ability to manage your own emotions

  • will have a deeper insight into your own needs and motivations

  • will have increased your knowledge of what discrimination is

  • have enhanced your empathic abilities

  • will have increased your cultural awareness

  • are better able to postpone judgement

  • you know better how to contribute to a more inclusive academic world

How can I implement the learnings of this summer school?

Teachers
As a teacher, you can pay attention to inclusiveness in your classes by, for example, the way you teach your material, or the choice of cases. But also, by the way you approach students and how you manage your class: how can you deal with differences? How can you contribute to inclusive education?

Students
How can you interact with students and teachers in group work or during breaks in a way that shows respect and cultural awareness? How can you deal with differences in an inclusive way? How can you contribute to an inclusive University?
