Night of Art and Sciences

The Night of Art and Science is part of the UG Lustrum celebrations! A day full programme featuring performances by Greg Shapiro, Roxeanne Hazes, and Music by Blanks. For more in-depth info about the event, here are Asmo’s top picks for the entire event. I got tickets for the event and am personally looking forward to three acts in particular; Drag Queen Story hour, Travis Alabanza and Cut the Crepe.

A great event if you want to procrastinate for your exams. It is the weekend after all and we all deserve socially productive breaks. At least, that's what I am telling myself...

Holi - The Festival of Colors

GISA, the Indian Student Association, has organized Holi - The Festival of Colors on Saturday. This is one of the most popular festivals in India to celebrate the start of Spring with friends and family. The colourful celebrations will give spectacular pictures for your social media accounts, although you may want to be careful with your electronic devices as there will also be water balloons and water guns available.

Chinese Culture Day

Chinese Culture Day has the theme “what is happening in China right now?” this year. There will be talks by different scholars as well as artistic workshops on for example calligraphy as well as making traditional Chinese food. I’m personally interested in the Tai Chi workshop, I’ve convinced myself that my balance, fitness, and flexibility will magically improve after just one workshop.

ESN Day Excursion: Slagharen Theme Park

Does Slagharen sound vaguely familiar? That might be because it features in one of the (arguably) most important Dutch clips ever: ‘America First - The Netherlands Second’. The ESN excursion to Slagharen Theme Park will be the last one of this year for ESN. I looked up the theme park website and apparently, Slagharen is known as the ‘Wild West of the Netherlands’. If that doesn’t sound like a good time and great marketing, I don’t know what does (* read in sarcastic tone *).

Comedy Theatre: Totally Shifted!

The premiere for Totally Shifted! Is happening this Friday. This celebratory Lustrum event is a show about a professor’s night out in Groningen. Even though the show is held in Dutch, the play is based on slapstick humour; the universally appreciated the wittiest sense of humour out there.

ROOTS - Tropical Urban Edition | Simplon

Are you looking for a party to match the temperatures outside? Then you might want to swing by this Tropical Urban Edition of ROOTS this Saturday. A mix of urban afro sounds spiced up with some Caribbean dance hall will get you moving after a long day of studying/procrastinating at the UB.

Fair Fashion Festival Groningen

The Fair Fashion Festival is not directly taking place this weekend but is at least close enough to make it a worthwhile mention here. The name of the event says it all and is a must for all fashion freaks, lifestyle bloggers and environmentally conscious people out there. Besides a fashion show, there will be numerous lectures and documentary screenings explaining how you can be sustainable and trendy at the same time.

Marije
Hi! My name’s Marije, and I study English Language and Culture. I’m half Dutch half German, but I grew up in Africa (starts thinking of suitable Mean Girls quotes to reference). When I’m not out, studying or writing something, I’m inside, wrapped in a blanket binge watching a new tv-show.
