Now that the weather is getting nicer and nicer, your motivation is probably flying out of the window. It’s okay, we’ve all been there. Unfortunately, we cannot ignore our academic responsibilities all day every day. There’s still some studying to be done. Reluctantly, of course. In today’s blog, we describe (in GIFs) how such a study session at the University Library goes when all you want to do is soak up the sun outside. Hopefully, you’ll find some solace in the fact that it’s a universal experience. Enjoy! ;)

All eyes on you #slayqueen.

Dragging yourself to the UB, but at least you look fabulous and summery

With this weather, the hardest part is actually getting to the UB because you might trip and join all the laughing people enjoying Aperol Spritzes on outdoor terraces. Put on some summer clothes to get some motivation and go. It’s a pain, I know, but at least you’ll be the most fabulous person at the UB.

I wanna dance with somebody. Follow the beat of your heart, not the beat of the song.

Listening to summer bangers to get through the day

If you can’t get out into the sun, you’ll bring the sun to you in the form of summer bangers. But we all know this can go two ways: either you get a dopamine hit which will be beneficial for your study session or you’ll get so depressed because of FOMO that you cannot study anymore. Hopefully, for you, it will be the first.

LET ME GO

Being jealous of all the people enjoying the sun outside when looking out of the window

Technically you could just ditch your uni work and go to Noorderplantsoen, but no, you’re a good student. So, that means you’re enviously looking at all the people enjoying the sun from the UB’s windows like you’re being held as a prisoner.

Studying? Nah, I'm just soaking up the sun.

Taking many breaks in the sun just to make the most of the weather

Can you even call it studying when you’re taking that many breaks during the day to sit on the roof terrace of the UB? You came up with a title: break! You wrote 100 words: break! You found a good source for your argument: break! I mean, rest is also important, right?

Studying feels like a battlefield at this point.

Feeling sluggish because of the warmth

Don’t even get us started on the warmth, or heat, that comes with nice weather in the Netherlands. It makes you feel so sluggish. Even turning on your laptop feels like a big task. Especially when it’s not warm enough outside for the UB to turn on the air conditioning, everyone sits there battling (or suffering) through their study sessions.

Feeling the energy flowing back after one sip.

Buying many, many iced coffees to get some motivation and energy

Luckily, there's this thing called iced coffee that can help you get some of your energy and motivation back. Getting some iced coffee to help you through your study session and to get a teeny-tiny taste of summer: it’s a canon event.

You finally have motivation, but now the sun is shining on your laptop screen

After you’ve downed an iced coffee or two, you finally have some motivation to study. But there’s the sun shining down on your laptop screen so you can’t see anything. Is this a sign from the universe that you should just stop studying?

Time goes faster when you're having fun, not when you're studying.

Looking at the clock for the umpteenth time because you want to go to Stadsstrand

How much have you looked at the clock to see if you can leave? Far too many times. At this point, it has become a habit. You just want to GO! Because of that, you might even leave half an hour early. No one will know but your conscience. It’s okay, you can live with that.

It's like a reward.

Treating yourself to some well-deserved ice cream at the end of your study day

And then, after much suffering, you’ve arrived at the end of your study session! Of course, you must reward yourself for your hard work today. And what’s better than getting some ice cream before meeting your friends, right?

Hopefully, you’ve enjoyed this fun little blog post. Let us know what you found most relatable in the comments below. Good luck with studying in the upcoming spring and summer months! You can do it. :)
