Surinaamse Brunch/Lunch

Groningen is home to quite a few Surinamese restaurants and supermarkets. Naturally, I wanted to try the food, and I was pleasantly surprised. If you haven’t tried the Surinamese cuisine, do so! This Sunday, Smoke will be holding a Surinamese Brunch, where they will serve Rotis. Rotis are an absolutely delicious dish, consisting of the roti (a round or oval flat-bread), and some accompaniments on top. These usually are a type of meat, potatoes, green beans, onions… I could go on, but it’s better if you see it for yourself!

ESN Live Music Project: Info Evening

As an international student, ESN is one of the easiest and quickest ways to get to know other fellow students, or get to know the city in general. However, this upcoming event is for everyone: Dutch or international. The ESN Live Music Project is an evening of live music in which students from all backgrounds can come together and play in front of a crowd of around 400 people. The Live Music Night is at the end of the semester, but this week, ESN will be holding two information meetings for anyone who is interested in the event.

On a side note, if you’re interested in joining the board, ESN is also holding a Board Information Evening on Monday. Make sure to check these out, they’re great ways of getting involved with the student community in Groningen.

DoeDigiDag - Groningen

DoeDigiDag is part of Noorden Digitaal, a conference about digitalization organized by the three provinces of the Northern Netherlands (Groningen, Friesland, and Drenthe). This Saturday, the Forum will host several events and activities throughout the day. This includes an outdoor virtual escape game, AI exhibits, lectures about digitalization, and lots more. The conference itself also has several other events occurring throughout the week in Groningen, so if you’re interested, you might want to check out their website.

OMG! - Open Mic Groningen

Life can get pretty boring and routine around these last few weeks of classes. You might begin to feel the work piling on before the final deadlines or exams, so a little de-stressing might be in order. If you’re free on Thursday night and feel like going out for some laughs, OMG! (which stands for Open Mic Groningen) will be having their weekly comedy night at Café the Crown. For all internationals, no worries! This event is completely in English.

O’Malleys’s Jam Session

It’s Wednesday, it’s the middle of the week, and there are not many things going on. However, it’s always nice to have a chill evening with friends every now and then. Now that the weather is starting to get a little bit warmer, it might be nice to spend some time enjoying Groningen’s nightlife. Need a plan that combines city + chill?  O’Malley’s Weekly Jam Session is a good starting point. You can either relax and listen to the music, or join along with your own instrument. You’ll most definitely end up singing along with the songs!
