Country group II
If you are from a group II country, you do not need a visa to enter the Netherlands. The University applies for only a residence permit for you.
When you have been admitted to one of our programmes, the University will contact you regarding your residence permit application. You will be informed about the documents that we need from you and asked to send those to the University for the application. When the University has received all documents and processed your application, the application will be sent to the IND. We strongly advise to apply for your residence permit before you have entered the Netherlands.
Residence permit card
In order to produce your residence permit card, the IND needs your fingerprints and photo. Students who need a visa to enter the Netherlands arrange this at the Embassy while they collect their visa. Since you do not need a visa, you will have to arrange this after your arrival in the Netherlands, at one of de IND desks in the country.
The closest IND desk to Groningen is in Zwolle. The ISD will send you a route description on how to get there. Please make sure you go there shortly after your arrival. Other IND desks can be found in the cities Amsterdam and Utrecht. Please go to IND Addresses for address information and route descriptions.
The residence permit card will be valid for the total duration of your degree or exchange programme plus three more months. Information about the requirements that you must meet in order to keep your residence permit card during it’s total validity period can be found under ‘Modern Migration Policy’.
If you fall behind in your studies but you pass enough classes to continue your programme, your residence permit card will probably expire before you finish your programme. In that case you have to contact the ISD (firstname.lastname@example.org) at least three months before your residence permit expires in order to apply for an extension of your residence permit card.
