Welcoming Ceremony

The University organizes an official Welcoming Ceremony for all new international guests at the beginning of both the first and second semester. During the Welcoming Ceremony all new international students will be welcomed by distinguished speakers from the university, the city of Groningen and the Erasmus Student Network (ESN). Students can visit the information fair to learn more about what the university and city of Groningen have to offer (in terms of, for example, sports and cultural facilities, international student associations and university facilities) and celebrate the start of their studies in Groningen with a drink and some music.

The first upcoming welcoming ceremony will take place in the Martini Church on 31 January 2019 from 1 p.m. Invitations will be sent out via email on 17 January and 28 January 2019 (depending on time of offer acceptance). If you have not received an invitation by 29 January, contact us at prospectives@rug.nl so we can send you the necessary information. Attending the ceremony is free of charge; new international students are strongly advised to attend.

The Welcoming Ceremony is the perfect opportunity to meet fellow international students and staff of the university and its faculties!

ESN Introduction week

The ESN introduction week is another great way to start off your time in Groningen. Get to know your way around the city, find out where the best bars and clubs are, learn about Dutch history, watch a comedy act and learn everything about the transport (even how to ride a bike!).
