Very Successful 2022 Petrus Camper Festival!

04 July 2022

On Wednesday, 29th June 2022, the Petrus Camper Festival (PCF) took place in the Academy Building from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. After having to host the PCF online for two years due to the covid-19 measures, we were happy that this year’s festival took place in the Academy Building again! The PCF is the final activity of the Petrus Camper Track, in which 3rd year Honours students present their results of their research projects. Our Dean, prof. dr. Hanny Elzinga, opened the PCF which was followed by a recorded speech by Arjen Dijkstra, the Director of the University Museum. He talked a bit about Petrus Camper’s work and his scientific and societal impact.

During the afternoon students, proud parents, family, friends and members of the academic community attended various activities organized by third-year undergraduate students (the Almeida Cohort) of the Honours College. The students prepared a variety of interactive activities in which they gave participants insights into their final research projects. During the course of the afternoon participants experienced activities on topics ranging from sustainability to happiness. For example, they took part in a scavenger hunt and visited a Chinese garden and so much more. Participants gained valuable knowledge and had fun!

After the festival, there were several festive speeches in the Aula of the Academy Building, which were streamed in the Senaatskamer and Heymanszaal. The speakers were our Dean, drs. J.A.W.M. (Hans) Biemans (Vice President of the Board of the University), and Anna Sophie den Ouden (the student speaker on behalf of the Almeida Cohort). Afterwards, the graduation ceremony per faculty started, and the Honours College Medal was awarded to the graduates by their faculty coordinators. After the ceremony, there was a photo opportunity on the stairs of the Academy Building, and there were festive drinks afterwards. Later in the evening, the Honours College Study Association (HCSA) organized a gala.

Congratulations! In the face of such unknown adversity, the Almeida graduates did it! The Honours College wishes the Almeida graduates success in their future educational and professional endeavors!
