Musschenbroeck, Pieter van

The Dutch Pieter van Musschenbroeck (1692 - 1761), son to an instrument maker, was a medical doctor, physicist, mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher.
In 1746, he (co-)invented the first practical capacitor that he called Leyden jar, which had a capacitance of about 7 nF.
