Criteria applying to course descriptions

Mathematics course descriptions are used to assess whether you have the required mathematics background knowledge to start the BSc Global Responsibility & Leadership. It is therefore very important that the course descriptions you provide are elaborate, complete and form a full overview of the courses you have taken.

Note: You may be exempt from providing us with mathematics course descriptions. For more information please visit this page, specifically the section on mathematics requirements.

Official course descriptions such as course syllabi or curriculum descriptions issued by educational institutions or the ministry of education are preferred. If these documents are not available in English or Dutch, you may provide unofficial translations along with the original document.

If official course descriptions are not available, you may also compile them yourself.

Course descriptions must include:

  • course name (must correspond to course name on transcript);
  • if applicable, course code;
  • description of subjects taught in course (list of subjects will not be sufficient);
  • examples of exercises/calculations done as part of this course;
  • contact hours (and credits/units, if applicable);
  • aims of the course/learning outcomes;
  • literature reference to course book(s) used;
  • skills on which the course focused.

If you create your own course descriptions, please include the following information, if available:

  • link to website (URL) to school/educational institution where the course was taken (if possible, link to the specific course);
  • representative collection of exam questions;
  • scan of table of contents of book(s) used + list of studied chapters.

Course descriptions are an essential part of the required application documents. Without the course descriptions your application file will be incomplete and will not be reviewed.

Please note that each individual application can be evaluated only once. It is therefore important to make sure that the documents you provide meet the requirements of the University of Groningen application procedure. Providing incomplete or incorrect documents can have consequences for your application for admission. If you have any doubts regarding the requirements applicable to your application documents, please do not hesitate to contact us.
