Organize and Understand your sources with Gemini Notebook

Gemini Notebook is a powerful AI tool by Google that helps you organize, understand, and work with large amounts of information. Whether you are doing research, preparing teaching materials, or managing projects at work, Gemini Notebook can help you work smarter and faster. This workshop will guide you through everything you need to know, from the very basics all the way to advanced features and real-world workflows.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is for academic staff, researchers, teachers, and other professionals who want to start using Gemini Notebook or get more out of it. You do not need to have used Gemini Notebook before, but you are expected to already know what it is and to have basic experience with AI tools in general.

Content

This workshop is structured into three levels, so you can build your skills step by step.

Beginner

• What is Gemini Notebook?
• Privacy: what you need to know before you start
• Adding and managing sources
• Interacting with the chat

Intermediate

• Gemini Notebook Studio: exploring the creative features
• Sharing notebooks with others

Advanced

• Third-party extensions
• Prompting: how to get better results
• Connecting Gemini Notebook
• A full workflow example to bring it all together
• Designing websites with Gemini Notebook

Prerequisites

• Basic experience with AI tools (Mistral, Claude, ChatGPT, etc.).
• Have a personal Google account. Please note: the University of Groningen Google account does not work with Gemini Notebook, so a personal Google account is required.
• It is recommended that you bring your own laptop. If you do not have a laptop, please contact t.j.van.mourik@rug.nl so we can arrange one for you.

Result

By the end of this workshop, you will have a clear understanding of what Gemini Notebook can and cannot do, and you will be ready to use it in your research, teaching, or other professional work. This workshop is designed to engage participants actively, with opportunities for collaborative exploration and plenty of time to ask questions and get feedback.

Please note: this workshop does not provide advice on university policies regarding AI use, since a comprehensive university-wide policy does not yet exist. It is up to you to decide how to use Gemini Notebook based on our privacy and security disclaimers given during the workshop and your faculty guidelines.

Enrollment and fee

Attendance is free for UG staff and PhD-students, but registration is required.
