AI Tools in Development

The UG is working on the implementation of a locally and fully self-hosted AI assistant, such as ChatGPT or Mistral's Vibe (Le Chat). This application offers a secure and reliable way to support students and staff, with privacy and security as a priority. By hosting this AI service entirely at the UG, all data remains on UG servers, which means that sensitive information is not disclosed with third parties. This ensures a controlled environment for educational, research and business applications, while maintaining data confidentiality. The first version is expected in December 2025.

UG-AI Platform

The University of Groningen is working on the implementation of the UG-AI Platform, a fully self-hosted, on-premises AI gateway and large language model (LLM) solution. This solution provides a secure and reliable way to enable teams to develop and integrate AI tools, with digital autonomy and privacy as a priority. By hosting the platform entirely within the university, all data remains on the University of Groningen’s servers, ensuring that sensitive information is not sent to external parties. This guarantees a controlled environment for educational, research and operational applications, whilst maintaining data confidentiality. For applications where appropriate, the platform is also connected to commercial models.
