Ethics Symposium and Language & Culture poster session: UCF course closures
Today was a day of course closures for the students of the University College Fryslân.
The first year bachelor students finished their course Language & Culture, taught by Matt Coler and PhD students Bianca Dijkstra and Vass Verkhodanova, with a poster session. Dean Andrej Zwitter opened the session, thereafter visitors could learn from student research and vote for the best poster. The team with the most votes won with their poster was the project regarding "Comparing Cultural Influence on Slang Usage Amongst Youth" by Hufferd, Horinga, Cockx & Kallo. Well done to you all!

The course Ethics & Global Responsibility from the second year was finished with an Ethics Symposium, organised by the students. The symposium started with a keynote by Dr. Coyan Tromp of the University of Amsterdam. Her keynote was about Wicked Philosophy: how to make use of philosophy to approach contemporary problems such as climate change and social injustice? Together with the students, Dr Coyan Tromp discussed the forces that drive the development in our society. Which developments will happen? And is there a way that we can help stimulate the developments that are necessary? Tromp concluded her lecture by informing us that "Leadership is learning to let go of the idea that you need to be the best all the time. Not everyone has to be a leader. But every leader needs followers."
The symposium continued with a lecture by Kritika Maheshwari and final presentations by the students about topics related to Ethics & Global Responsibility.
