On Thursday, October 29, RUG alumni in New York are invited to attend an evening in the Material Recycling Facility (MRF) “Sims Sunset Park”. Our host is RUG alumnus Pieter Eenkema van Dijk (1977), President of Van Dyk Recycling Solutions.
Sims Sunset Park is an 11 acre plant on a pier in Brooklyn where all New York City’s curbside metal, glass and plastics are processed. This $110m project is a partnership between New York City and Sims and was opened in December 2013. Van Dyk Recycling Solutions delivered and installed all (Dutch) machines, that processes the recycling materials. Most materials arrive by ship. This factory is the biggest facility in the world for this type of material (2 million lbs per day). The Dutch founded New York and now they process New York's recycling!
The event is organized by the Alumni Chapter of the University of Groningen in the Greater New York area and is open to all alumni of the University of Groningen.
