Meeting University library
What is the average ecological footprint of all Dutch citizens? A 3,2 hectares, B 4,2 hectares, C 5,2 hectares of D 6,2 hectares? This was one of the quiz questions for the employees from the university library. Leander van der Wal introduced them the Health, Safety, and Sustainability department of the UG.
They started with a trial session Office Yoga which was organized by Balans. After doing gymnastic and relaxing exercises for half an hour, it was time for a quiz! The questions were about health, safety and sustainability. Some of the answers were eye openers for the participants. If everybody would use 1,8 hectares earth to live from, than there would be an equal distribution of resources for everyone. However, the average ecological footprint of all Dutch citizens is 6,2 hectares! Some employees wondered how they could reduce their footprint. We advised them to reduce meat consumption and to pay extra attention on transport like commuting and flights.
