Vegetable bags at the University
The vegetable bag committee is looking for volunteers to help with the bi-weekly pick up of the vegetable bag. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who can help us during the pickup moments of the vegetable bag. Every two weeks, on a Tuesday, our vegetables are delivered to the pickup point. As a pick up volunteer you help the committee in receiving the vegetables, handling the orders and handing out the vegetable bags to our customers. The pick-up is from 15.00 until approximately 18.00h, as a volunteer you're kindly asked to arrive an hour earlier to receive the vegetables. It is also possible to help out for a shift, either 14.00h until 16.00h or 16.00h until 18.00h.
Before every pick up the committee will send out a request to the volunteers to sign up for the pickup, so you can choose for yourself when you participate!
Email us for more information or sign up by sending an email to us email@example.com .
What is the Vegetable Bag?
The vegetable bag is a student run project initiated by the RUG’s Green Office. Inspired by a similar project in Utrecht we started a well-received pilot project in Groningen earlier this year and are now offering a biweekly bag filled with locally produced organic vegetables and fruit to the students and staff of the University of Groningen and the Hanze University. In order to allow you to use your produce in a timely fashion each bag will contain sufficient vegetables for two different meals for either 1 or 2 persons.
With this project we hope to:
- Inspire the university's students and staff alike to cook with fresh, organic, local and seasonal produce and connect them to the region.
- Reduce food-waste by rescuing vegetables and fruits from the garbage that won't make it to the supermarkets due to their looks
- Support you in establishing new shopping habits by providing you with knowledge about the many opportunities to buy locally produced, organic foods of the season.
We work non-profit, which means that all the vegetables, fruits, juices and breads we offer are sold for the producers’ price. Our partners is the Groentebuur . Groentebuur buys fresh produce from 18 local farmers here in the North of the Netherlands and delivers them to the Academic Building every second Tuesday (our pick up day).
How to Order
The time to order a Vegetable Bag is announced on our Facebook page, we will offer a 1-person and a 2-person Vegetable Bag with pre-selected seasonal, organic vegetables from the North of the Netherlands. The content of every bag will also be announced in the newsletter of the Green Office.
You will find us in the Academic Building, Broerstraat 5, next to the entrance of the Honours College. Please bring your own bag if possible.
In case you have any questions, remarks or suggestion we would love to hear from you at firstname.lastname@example.org.
