SPRINT

One of the most common threats to the independence of elderly people is the loss of mobility, for example after a fall. The SPRINT research centre helps elderly people to stay independent by performing research on prevention, rehabilitation and prostheses. The centre focuses on improving or restoring the mobility of the elderly, a goal that is becoming more and more important in ageing western societies.

SPRINT concentrates its research on the development of Smart Mobility Devices: smart devices to help elderly people stay mobile for longer and improve rehabilitation treatments, wherever possible in the person’s own home. SPRINT also develops innovative prostheses and orthoses.

SPRINT is a joint initiative of the University of Groningen, University Medical Center Groningen, the University of Twente, Hanze University of Applied Sciences, various public and private rehabilitation centres, healthcare providers and businesses representing a range of sectors and expertise.
