Career Track Assistant Professorship in Finance (1.0 FTE) (V25.0495)

Job description

The Department of Economics, Econometrics and Finance of the University of Groningen is looking for a Career Track Assistant Professor in Finance.

You conduct independent research and aim to publish in high-ranked international journals. The scope of your research can be broad and may include topics such as capital structure, corporate social responsibility, corporate governance, development finance, portfolio management, corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, financial intermediation, household finance, investment management, asset pricing, etcetera.

You have good teaching skills and are interested in developing these further. You will contribute to courses in the BSc and MSc programs offered by the Department. Moreover, you are involved in the supervision of bachelor and master theses.

The Department of Economics, Econometrics and Finance (EEF) is responsible for teaching courses in many BSc and MSc programs offered by the Faculty on topics like finance, banking, econometrics, macroeconomics, microeconomics, statistics and mathematics. The department is an active research community, performing at the highest international level in terms of research and publications. Researchers in the department are active in several research themes, including corporate finance, asset pricing, corporate governance, financial history, corporate social responsibility, development finance, banking, insurance, health, ageing and pensions, econometrics, macroeconomics, behavioral and experimental economics, and industrial organization.

Qualifications

To qualify, you should have:

  • A PhD in Finance or Economics, or being close to completion.
  • Teaching experience and good teaching skills, in finance.
  • Research papers in the area of finance, with the potential to be published in top-tier academic journals (or published articles in these journals).
  • A University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) or the willingness to obtain this qualification.
  • A collaborative and positive attitude, strong communicative skills; and
  • An ambition to develop an international network of professional contacts.

Conditions of employment

Career track positions at the Faculty of Economics and Business are permanent positions subject to a tenure decision after eighteen months. Based on a positive evaluation after five years, you will be promoted to Associate Professor.

These profiles differ in their balance between research and teaching, as well as in evaluation criteria for tenure and promotion. In accordance with the collective labor agreement for Dutch Universities, we offer a salary depending on qualifications and work experience starting from a minimum of € 4,728 to a maximum of € 6,433 gross per month (salary scale 11). In addition, you will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus and participation in a pension scheme for employees. Favorable tax treatment may apply to non-Dutch applicants.
