Central position in organization for Sustainability (Green Office)

08 July 2025

The Green Office has been given a new place within the organization as of 1 June. In order to be able to work optimally on integral sustainability within the university, a new and more central position has been chosen. The Green Office was previously part of the Campus & Community cluster as a program, but will now continue as part of the staff department at Governance & Legal, under the management of University Services.

Integrated sustainability programme manager Dick Jager explains why the Green Office proposed this change to the University Services management:

"At Campus & Community, we were often part of the process. We actively contribute ideas to projects and tenders where sustainability plays a role and provide advice, but we also develop (new) sustainability policies. For the Green Office to function effectively, it is important to have an independent position in this regard. In the previous setting, we were unable to sufficiently guarantee this, and that is our goal. Our advice may not always be followed, but by becoming part of Governance & Legal, we can better assume that independent position. It is important that we can observe from a distance and also monitor the effect of the sustainability policy.''

In the coming period, the Green Office will work on an evaluation of the current Sustainability Roadmap, which expires in 2026. Subsequently, a new sustainability strategy will be drawn up for the coming five years, in line with the university's new Strategic Plan.
