Concepts and Definitions

Internationalisation

Internationalisation has been a much debated and diversely interpreted concept for many years. Yet, from a management perspective the definition from Jane Knight (1994, 2008) is still the most widely used and accepted: a process ofintegrating an international and cultural dimension into the teaching, research and service functions of the institution”.

''Inclusive, active learning through a common language in which all students and lecturers engage in purposeful interactions with diverse ideas and diverse people to develop and demonstrate internationalized learning outcomes aligned with the program vision on internationalization in order to enhance the quality of teaching and learning and employability for all students.''

Internationalisation of curriculum

Related to teaching, the International Classroom Project Team has contextualised the internationalisation of the curriculum in its Project Plan. As such, the concept is defined as “Inclusive, active learning through a common language in which all students and lecturers engage in purposeful interactions with diverse ideas and diverse people to develop and demonstrate internationalized learning outcomes aligned with the program vision on internationalization in order to enhance the quality of teaching and learning and employability for all students.” (International Project Plan 2018, p.5)
