UG researcher Soran Mansournia to go to Yale thanks to Rubicon grant

UG researcher Soran Mansournia (Faculty of Spatial Sciences) will be able to conduct research at Yale University for two years thanks to the Rubicon programme organized by the Dutch Research Council (NWO). The NWO Rubicon programme enables talented, young researchers to acquire international research experience to help kick-start their academic careers.

Authoritarian Strategies in Urban Planning: How Regimes Weaponize the City to Suppress Uprisings

Cities under dictatorship aren't designed by accident—they're weaponized. In Iran's marginalized regions, Kurdistan and Baluchistan, I co-map protesters' spatial experiences and analyze them with official urban plans to investigate how urban design may shape repression and resistance. I explore how cities can become a tool of authoritarianism, documenting the spatial dimensions of state violence.
