Northwest German knowledge institutions join forces in Northwest Innovation Area and strengthen their partnership with the University of the North

29 November 2023

The University of Oldenburg, the University of Vechta, the Jade University of Applied Sciences, and the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer have joined forces in the ‘Innovationsraum Nordwest’. With this initiative, the Northwest German knowledge institutions aim to make a substantial contribution to the broad prosperity of the Northwest German region. This dovetails perfectly with the mission of the University of the North in the Northern Netherlands. Both parties are therefore looking forward to strengthening the already existing partnerships.

The four Northwest German knowledge institutions have applied for a grant for the network from the Volkswagen Foundation's Science Spaces [Wissenschaftsräume of Volkswagen Stiftung] and the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture. They are supported in this by the University of the North. Prof. Jouke de Vries presented a letter welcoming the application and confirming the intention of closer collaboration at a meeting on Thursday 23 November in Oldenburg as steering committee chair of the University of the North.

Collaboration across borders

Both regions have been collaborating in the field of teaching and research for some time and are looking forward to strengthening their connections across borders in order to boost the knowledge and innovation ecosystem in both regions together with regional partners.
