The UG’s Global Responsibility and Leadership degree programme has been named by the Dutch Higher Education Guide for Universities 2024 as the best Bachelor’s degree programme in the Netherlands. This programme, which is taught at Campus Fryslân in Leeuwarden, was awarded a score of 99 out of 100. Nine of the UG’s other Bachelor’s degree programmes earned the accolade of Top Degree Programme. The UG ranked fourth of six in the category Broad-Based General Universities.

The Dutch Higher Education Guide for Universities awards the Top Degree Programme label to Bachelor’s degree programmes that are rated 75 points or higher (out of 100). This year, the Global Responsibility and Leadership programme, which is taught at Campus Fryslȃn, finished first as the best Bachelor’s degree programme in the Netherlands, earning no fewer than 99 points. Another course at Campus Fryslȃn, Data Science & Society, also scored high with a total of 88 points.

The eight other UG Bachelor’s degree programmes that qualified as Top Degree Programmes in the Dutch Higher Education Guide were

  • Data Science & Society (88 points)
  • Minorities & Multilingualism (88 points)
  • Religious Studies (85 points)
  • Archaeology (83 points)
  • Liberal Arts & Sciences (83 points)
  • Dentistry (83 points)
  • Middle-Eastern Studies (77 points)
  • Chemical Engineering (77 points)
  • English Language and Culture (76 points)

It is possible for a degree programme to be rated as best in a category without it qualifying as a Top Degree Programme. Another three UG Bachelor’s degree programmes were recognized as best in their respective categories. These were

  • Human Movement Sciences
  • Media Studies
  • Artificial Intelligence

Rector Magnificus Jacquelien Scherpen is pleased with the result: 'This is great news. It proves that our University scores well on a range of degree programmes, regardless of whether it is in language or engineering. We can all be proud of that.'
