Besides the development of new methods to characterize oxidative enzymes, the thesis of Annette Riebel increased the amount of characterized Baeyer-Villiger monooxygenases (BVMOs) drastically. It also discovered a new and promising subgroup of class B flavoprotein monooxygenases (FMOs): Type II FMOs, which have the potential to become the new stars in the world of flavoenzymology.
