In his thesis, Paul van den Tempel investigated the possibility to use 'click' chemistry for 3D printing applications. Using this chemistry, a material may click together at lower temperature, leading to a solid material. On the other hand, these reversible bonds holding the network together can be broken bij heating the material up to higher temperatures, reducing the material back to a liquid. This would allow to remove or reshape the printed object or layers easily, and thus to recycle it back for a new round of printing.
