Skin autofluorescence in the general population: associations and prediction
Skin autofluorescence is associated with several clinical and lifestyle parameters including coffee consumption and tobacco smoking. Higher skin autofluorescence levels are observed in individuals with the metabolic syndrome. Skin autofluorescence predicts incident type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and mortality in the general population including 72 880 individuals who had been followed for 4 years.
