Inaugural lecture Prof F. (Florian) Noseleit: From disruption to impact. Why tomorrow’s entrepreneurs are different

When:Fr 24-02-2023 16:15 - 17:00
Where:Aula Academy Building, Broerstraat 5, Groningen

Florian Noseleit's inaugural lecture discusses the changes occurring in entrepreneurship, such as the increasing diversity of entrepreneurs in terms of their backgrounds and motives, the changing societal demand for a different type of entrepreneur, as well as the impact of new technologies that will require entrepreneurs to utilize different skills and abilities.

While entrepreneurship has traditionally been centered on individuals engaging in opportunity recognition and stressing disruptive innovations, entrepreneurship is changing, with more women, minorities, and people from different cultural backgrounds starting businesses. Motives and aspirations for entrepreneurship are also evolving, with an increasing number of entrepreneurs prioritizing creating businesses that align with their values and beliefs and contribute to society in a meaningful way.

Noseleit suggests that the traditional focus on disruption and the "Move fast and break things" mentality is becoming less prevalent, with many entrepreneurs seeking to create businesses that positively impact society and the environment. Additionally, new technological developments will require entrepreneurs to have skills, knowledge, and tools that enable them to address the ethical and societal implications of these technologies. These changes in entrepreneurship have important implications for research in entrepreneurship and how future entrepreneurs are educated.
