Documentary: Pulse of the North
In 2018, Third Year students Tom Barbereau, Tim Driessen & Danial Lissborg developed, produced, and edited the documentary Pulse of the North, which investigated Groningen’s famous electronic music scene. The documentary gives an account of the vibrant, ever-growing, and internationally renowned electronic music scene in Groningen by interviewing club owners, DJs, enthusiasts (from both past and present) and record shop owners. They did not only try to emphasise on the music, but a deeper, fascinating story came to light during the research, about the tight-knit community that has grown up alongside the scene.
This is the first ever documentary made at UCG and helped setting up a protocol for Year 3 video projects. Armed with only iPhone cameras and gifted with absolutely zero experience in documentary making, Tom, Tim and Danial headed out to all corners of the city in order to create the documentary. Through workshops on documentary making, some basic video shooting equipment such as tripods and microphones and the indispensable support from their project supervisor dr. Ferdinand Lewis, they created a very impressive documentary on the electronic music scene in Groningen.
