Hedwig Boer joins UCG as visiting scholar

As of September, UCG will have a visiting scholar - Hedwig Boer. Hedwig works at UMCG and for one day a week, she will be at UCG, collaborating with ADE and other UCG staff members.
Hedwig Boer is a Social and organisational psychologist by training and interested in the influence of groups on the development of individuals. More specifically, her interests revolve around how teachers stimulate personal development during interdisciplinary team processes, and what skills/abilities/attitudes (such as the Inner Development Goals) are trained during the educational programs. In her perspective, interdisciplinary environments are very fruitful places with potential for growth in terms of collaboration skills, as well as personal and professional development.
Within the UMCG, Boer followed two educational apprenticeships and currently work as an Academic Teacher at the department of Health Sciences. Boer is a member of team SCOPE, an expertise centre focused on personal and professional development. In this function, she is involved in the interdisciplinary minor More Healthy Years, and she is the coordinator of transdisciplinary minor program called “Expeditie het Gezonde Noorden”.
Aside from teaching, her research interests revolve around how to combine societal impact with scientific research and is therefore interested in methodologies such as action research and design based research. Next to this, her personal interests lie in (environmental) sustainability, (gender) equality and the impact of nutrition on health.
As Boer's interest lies in how we can support teachers in guiding personal development of students within diverse teams, she would like to learn from the experiences that are present within UCG. "I am looking forward to exchanging ideas and methods on this theme to get a better understanding on how teachers can be supported when guiding students in interdisciplinary settings."
