UCG Evening Lecture Series: The Discovery of Vitamin C
What do a potato and a person with Addison’s disease have in common? More than you might think! Join us for an evening lecture with Dr. Erik Ducker as he takes us into the fascinating world of Hungarian biochemist Albert Szent-Györgyi, whose curiosity and eccentricity led to the discovery of vitamin C – and a Nobel Prize in 1937.
From a browning potato in a Groningen basement to the drama of escaping both Hitler and Stalin, Szent-Györgyi’s story is as remarkable as his science. Erik, a laboratory biologist turned historian of science, brings this tale vividly to life, drawing on his deep passion for the history of scientific discovery. There will be food and drinks after the lecture for participants. Please don't forget to sign up via the qr code below. For questions, please email o.kavatsyuk@rug.nl. We hope to see you there!
