Tristan Timpers (Class of 2025)
What was your major at UCG, and what drew you to study Liberal Arts and Sciences?
My major was Sciences and I chose LAS because I was unsure exactly what to study and this degree felt open-ended enough for me to explore and decide later on.
Were there any particular subjects or courses that you found especially exciting or impactful during your time at UCG?
The courses Calculus and Programming were quite impactful because from that moment on, I knew that the Sciences major was for me, more specifically the AI direction.
How did your time at UCG shape your interests or career path? Did it influence any unexpected directions?
My time at UCG allowed me to explore different avenues within academia and truly make a meaningful connection with my community.
What did you do after graduating from UCG? How did your Liberal Arts and Sciences degree help you take the next step?
After graduating, I studied a Master in AI at the RUG. UCG helped to take the next step because a majority of the courses I needed to be enrolled in the Master were offered at UCG.
Looking back, what were some of the most memorable or meaningful moments you experienced at UCG?
Some of the most memorable times included the Project days because it felt like a big culmination of the whole year ending in the Gala, as well as my thesis defense which concluded my time at UCG.
What advice would you give to current or prospective students considering UCG?
My advice would be to keep an open mind when choosing courses and not to be afraid to look outside of UCG for courses if what you are interested in is not offered.
What are your goals for the future?
My goals for the future are to do a PhD in the use of AI in education.
