Xiaoyu Zhou (周小渝) is a first-year PhD student at the Center for Language and Cognition (CLCG), University of Groningen, supervised by Dr. Federico Pianzola and Dr. Janina Wildfeuer.

Her current research focuses on empirical studies of multimodal narratives, especially computational narrative analysis of webtoons in the infinite canvas format. She is also broadly interested in applying natural language processing and computer vision to multimodal communication research and to larger questions across the humanities. Part of her work contributes to the GOLEM Project (ERC StG).

Previously, she received a BA in Translation Studies (2022) and an MA in Digital Humanities (2024). During her graduate studies, she was involved in the TINTIN Project (ERC StG), where she worked on sentiment analysis for global comics.
