S.S. (Sevim Sena) Taskaya, LLM

Sevim Sena Taskaya is a PhD candidate at the Transboundary Legal Studies Department at the University of Groningen. Her thesis title is 'Regulating offshore renewable energy sustainably under the international law of the sea framework'.
Her PhD research focuses on offshore renewable energy, examining legal challenges, conflicts among various stakeholders and sea users, and potential regulatory frameworks under international law. The research aims to investigate the challenges arising from offshore renewable energy, including navigational safety around these projects, environmental impact assessments, and the security of offshore renewable energy infrastructure against foreign threats and risks.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Law and a double major degree in Political Science and International Relations from Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul. In 2021, she completed her master’s degree in public law at Galatasaray University in Istanbul with her dissertation on ‘The Crime of Intentional Pollution of the Environment’.
She is a qualified attorney registered to the Istanbul Bar Association.
Her areas of expertise are public international law, law of the sea, environmental law, and maritime law.
She is fluent in Turkish and English and actively enhancing her Dutch proficiency.
