Expertise
My research focuses on the intersection of health geography and mobility, using geospatial technologies to better understand how people move through and interact with their environments. A central concept in this work is the activity space, which I use to analyse how individuals access places, services, and opportunities in their daily lives. Drawing on perspectives from mobility studies and the capabilities approach, my research examines how mobility shapes wellbeing and participation in society. This approach provides insights into how spatial structures, transport systems, and local environments influence people’s opportunities to move, engage in activities, and maintain social connections. An important aim of this research is to better understand mobility-related inequalities, particularly for groups in vulnerable contexts. By analysing how access to mobility and everyday destinations varies across populations, my work contributes to identifying capabilities and barriers to participation, and informing more inclusive planning and policy. Alongside my research, I teach courses on geospatial technologies, spatial analysis, and mobility. In my teaching, I emphasise the combination of spatial and computational skills, enabling students to analyse and address complex spatial and societal challenges using data-driven and reproducible approaches.
