dr. S. Couperus
I teach within the Politics and Society profile of the European Languages and Cultures BA programme (Dutch and English) and in the track European Politics in a Global Perspective within the International Relations MA programme. In 2020-2021 I am involved in the following modules:
- BA thesis supervision (BA3)
- MA thesis supervision (MA Euroculture)
Themes covered in my previous teaching are: democracy and democratisation, the history of political theory, political and social urban history, Dutch and European political and social history of the 19th and 20th centuries.
I have given various guest lectures in the field of political history, urban history and social science theory in historical scholarship at Erasmus University Rotterdam, Free University Brussels, Utrecht University, University College Groningen, the Research School for Political History and the Netherlands Institute of Government (NIG), the Dutch Research School for Public Administration and Political Science.
I am happy to advice theses in the broad field of social and political history of (particularly North-Western) Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries. Themes relating to urban planning and culture, lokale democratie, contentious politics and social movements, social exclusion and statecraft, political and administrative culture, and political theory have my particular interest.
