Current teaching activities:

2016- present: Facilitator for BSc Medicine Global Health students (Problem–Based  Learning), supervision of BSc thesis projects

2014-16: Bachelor in Medicine, Global Health G2020 curriculum

  • Developing practicals and lectures in the Global Health profile, BSc Medicine
  • Assisting BSc, MSc and PhD students at the Medical Faculty in finding a Global Health (research) internship position together with Prof. Dr Hans V. Hogerzeil (http://www.rug.nl/staff/h.v.hogerzeil/index)

2012-2015: Training of teaching staff of King Faisal University (Saudi Arabia) on the organisation of the UMCG Global Health G2010 curriculum 

2006- 2012: Teaching collaboration with WHO Collaboration institute International Maternal and Child Health, IMCH, Uppsala University, in the course “Public health in humanitarian assistance”

 

Past teaching activities: 

2002-2014: “Public Health in Humanitarian Action” MA in International Humanitarian Action, (so-called NOHA programme; “Health Security” & “Food Security” both as part of the 2nd semester 30 ECTS module “Disaster Analysis and Intervention Design” MA in International Humanitarian Action http://www.nohanet.org/

2008-2010: Internship supervisor MA in International Humanitarian Action/ Faculty of Arts. My task was to inform 20 students per year about internship possibilities and regulations, guide them in finding placements and organise preparatory information meetings, including “Safety in the field”.

Summer 2007: Visiting Fellow for NOHA teaching collaboration with Monash Asia Institute (MAI) Melbourne, Australia, http://artsonline.monash.edu.au/mai/research/

1996-2001: Research internship supervisor on infant health/food projects in Groningen, Curacao and Ghana (students Medicine and Pharmacology) as well as secretarial assistants (ECABO) for the Section Perinatal Nutrition and Development, Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Fac. of Medicine, University of Groningen

 

Guest lectures: 

2014-15 for IFSMA UMCG, Population Research Centre (the Faculty of Spatial Sciences  RUG), as well as Jonge Socialisten Groningen,  on “Ebola as example case for the need of proper health security”.

2010-2012 for Fac. of Arts: workshop “Academic acculturation” for international MA students International Relations/ International Organisation, Euroculture and Humanitarian Action

2010- 2014 present for the General Studies Module (AVV) Tropical Medicine (“Tropengeneeskunde”) Faculty of Medicine: “Voor iedereen toegang tot de gezondheidszorg? Voorbeeld van sociale exclusie”
