My research focuses on energy geopolitics, critical infrastructure, and the implementation of EU energy policy. The central concern is how control over energy infrastructure, including pipelines, electricity interconnectors, subsea cables, and maritime resource claims, shapes the pace and form of energy transitions in geopolitically complex regions, and how jurisdictional disputes can foreclose transition pathways that appear straightforward in policy terms.
Empirical work spans the Eastern Mediterranean basin, drawing on cases across Cyprus, Greece, Turkey, and Israel, where energy infrastructure development consistently intersects unsettled maritime and territorial jurisdiction. The analysis connects this infrastructural geopolitics to the implementation of EU energy policy and to the practical consequences for initiatives such as renewable energy communities and regional interconnectors that depend on infrastructure and territory beyond local control.
