My PhD research explores issues of maintenance and care-work through the history of textile repair. Blending archival study on early needlework samplers with auto-ethnographic and participatory action research in conservation laboratories, artists’ studios and community workshops, my project approaches mending as a form of cultural heritage, a creative practice, and a hands-on pedagogical tool.
