My research explores motor development and learning in children, particularly those with movement disorders. I investigate how individual, environmental, and task-related factors influence children’s motor learning and participation in everyday activities. Using a systems-based approach, I develop and evaluate targeted interventions to help children—regardless of ability—develop the movement skills they need to participate fully and stay active and healthy.
Students learn to analyse motor and perceptual development, including in children with conditions like Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Cerebral Palsy (CP) and Down syndrome. Students engage with developmental theories, assessment tools, and clinical perspectives on motor learning.
