I.M.E. (Irene) Douwes-van Ark


Irene works as an Educational Developer for Educational Support and Innovation (ESI) at the University of Groningen. She has a background in pedagogical sciences (Utrecht University) and a second Master's degree in International Relations (Universidad Pablo de Olavide, Sevilla). 

After working for 5 years for an international child welfare organization in the Hague, Irene started working as a researcher and educational advisor for the research masters at the Graduate School of Medical Sciences in Groningen. 

Since the outbreak of Covid-19, Irene is involved in the Actieplan Onderwijs. She supports the Medical Faculty with online education/blended learning (embedded expert from ESI) and coordinates the involved student/teaching assistants. 

Next to the Actieplan, Irene supports teachers and staff with innovative educational projects at the University of Groningen, such as integration of technological applications in the classroom and virtual exchange.
As a trainer and coordinator, Irene is involved with the project Masters of Didactics. The project aims to train lecturers of Polish universities on quality of their teaching. She is also involved in researching the development of academics in this project and has special interest in the use of student questionnaires and teaching self-efficacy.
