prof. dr. H.I. Heijink
Irene H Heijink (1975) is a Medical Biologist working at the departments of Pathology & Medical Biology and Pulmonology. Her main interest is the pathogenesis of asthma and COPD. Her line of research focuses on aberrant repair and barrier function of asthma and COPD epithelium and the consequences for inflammatory and remodeling processes in the lung, with a translational character. Cellular models and molecular techniques are used to study the interaction of epithelium with the environment, inlcuding other stuctural lung cells and inflammatory cells, and epithelial pro-inflammatory and regenerative responses. Heijink is currently principal investigator and in lead of the Experimental Pulmonology and Inflammation Research group.
