dr. F.L. (Femke) Kramer

Femke Kramer is senior lecturer in the bachelor's and master’s programmes Dutch Language and Culture and several other programmes of the Faculty of Arts. Her lectures cover the areas of literature, discourse studies, rhetoric, and creative writing.

Kramer’s current research interests include sixteenth-century playwriting, ecocriticism, and the pedagogy of writing and public speaking.

In 2022 she co-founded the Environmental Humanities Network which is affiliated to the Agricola School for Sustainable Development.

She was member and chair of the program committee of Dutch Language and Culture for many years and has been a member of the faculty council since 2019, for several terms as chair and chair of the staff fraction respectively.

In the past, Kramer contributed as educational developer and (guest) lecturer to various programmes of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE), Talent Development trajectories and writing and presentation trainings for junior and senior research staff. She was co-initiator and co-developer of the master programme for science communication of the FSE, the online writing centre 'Noordster' (currently HACV) and the 'Academic Writing Centre Groningen', a helpdesk for student writers. Her international activities include guest teaching at Makerere University (Kampala) and ELTE (Budapest). For a number of years, she was editorial staff member and moderator of the 'Kenniscafe's' of the Studium Generale in Groningen.

For more than a decade, she was active as a theatre maker. She was co-organiser of two international theatre conferences and festivals, and was artistic leader of Theatergroep Marot, a company that performed contemporary adaptations of early modern theatre repertoire in the Netherlands, Italy, France, Great Britain, Denmark and Canada.

Kramer was educated in Leiden and Groningen, (Dutch language and literature; subsidiary subjects theatre studies and applied linguistics; doctorate in theatre history). She obtained her doctorate with a study on grotesque realism in rhetoricians’ farce entitled Mooi vies, knap lelijk .
