Master thesis University of Groningen: “Revealed Comparative Advantage, a comparison of the Balassa index and the value added approach”.
This thesis argues that one should no longer look at gross exports, but rather at value added when measuring competitiveness of a country. Therefore, the Balassa index is transformed into a Revealed comparative Advantage (RCA) measurement based on value added. This RCA based on value added gives significantly different results from the Balassa index and is argued to better reflect a country’s competitiveness levels. Grade: “8”.
Master thesis Fudan University: “Revealed Comparative Advantage in a fragmented world and the explanatory power Heckscher-Ohlin has on it: Implications along the case of China”.
This thesis extends the thesis from the University of Groningen by comparing the results of the RCA with the Heckscher-Ohlin model, and discussing the implications the results have for China. Grade: “A”.
