Marijn Molema is professor by special appointment on ‘Regional Vitality & Dynamics’, embedded in the chair group Economic and Social History. He combines this post with his work as Programleader at the Frisian Institute of Social Research in Leeuwarden. His research and teaching explores new methodologies that connect historical studies with policies for the development of regions within the (Northern) Netherlands. In his five year term, that started in September 2020, he aims to develop one or more innovative, practice-orientated research approaches. His main undertaking in the first half of his appointment are the “Time Travels”. Time Travels are research based narratives about the development of villages and municipalities that help these places to find the right direction for the future. Another line of research concerns the history of regional cooperation, that aims to support policy networks to learn from the past.
