prof. dr. A.J.M. (Ton) Schoot Uiterkamp

Ton Schoot Uiterkamp (1944) holds a PhD in biophysical chemistry from the University of Groningen. He was a staff member of UNESCO in Cairo, Egypt. He has held research and managerial positions at Yale University ( New Haven, CT) and at the Harvard School of Public Health (Boston, MA). He was a staff member and a department head at the Environmental Division of the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO) in Delft. From 1991 he has been a professor of environmental sciences at RUG. He was the chairman of the Center for Energy and Environmental Sciences IVEM and the Science and Society Group. Since 2009 he has been a honorary professor of Environmental Sciences.

His activities focus on designing and implementing cost-effective, feasible and acceptable ways towards locally and globally sustainable production and consumption systems while maintaining and improving environmental quality and environmental health.
